Rooted in the Word

Making Space for God in a Busy Life

In our fast-paced, constantly-connected world, it's easy to let quiet time with God slip to the bottom of the to-do list. The days get full, distractions multiply, and before we know it, we’re running on empty, spiritually drained and longing for peace.

But deep down, we know the truth: our souls were made for connection with God. We were created to walk with Him daily, to hear His voice, and to be transformed by His Word.

Why Time with God Matters

Spending time with God isn’t about checking a box or meeting a religious quota. It’s about relationship. Like any close friendship, intimacy with God grows when we make time for Him, listen to His heart through Scripture, and respond with our own.

Psalm 1 paints a clear picture: the person who delights in God’s Word and meditates on it day and night is like a tree planted by streams of water. That person bears fruit, stays rooted, and thrives no matter the season.

We need His Word not just for instruction, but for life, strength, and renewal.

How Do We Practically Do That?

If you're longing to reconnect with God but unsure where to begin, here are a few simple and life-giving ways to start:

Read a short passage each day. Choose one Psalm or one teaching of Jesus and sit with it, even if just for five minutes.

Write it out by hand. Slowing down enough to write a verse helps it settle deeper into your mind and heart.

Talk with God out loud. Whether it’s in the car, on a walk, or in your kitchen, treat Him like the Friend He is and have a conversation with Him.

Creatively meditate on His Word. Use your hands to help your heart engage. Sometimes our minds wander, but doing something simple and repetitive can help us stay focused and present. I’ve found that doodling or coloring a scripture helps me meditate on it for a longer period of time (It’s also a fun activity to do with my children!).

You don’t need to be an artist. You just need a quiet space, a few colors, and a willing heart. As you color, talk with God. Let the verse guide your thoughts and prayers.

Here’s a printable coloring book of scripture to help you engage with God’s Word in a peaceful, meaningful way. Each page features a Bible verse designed to help you reflect, reconnect, and simply linger in His presence.

Download it today and set aside time to meet with God. Let your hands slow your heart. Let His Word speak. Let this be the beginning of a deeper rhythm of resting in Him.
